Contact the photographer at: riogrande491[atsign]frii{period}com for permission to use these photos. Thanks to the Union Pacific Railroad for generously allowing the public to view this amazing locomotive.

Bob > While on a leisurely drive to Milliken for "Madness Days", along US 34 I saw headlights, turned, and noticed something that wasn't supposed to be there.

The DRGW heritage unit was being lead by a beat-up SD40-2 on the Fort Collins local... and was supposed to be on display in Milliken in just a few minutes. A chase ensued, during which I finally met Nathan H, famous builder of web site drgw.net.

Forgive the heat shimmer; this was shot at 300 mm on a 103 degree day.
Bob > On July 15 2006 the Fort Collins local's power through Officer Junction (Kelim) was a beat-up SD40-2 and the new Rio Grande Heritage unit. All the cars for interchange with the GW would not fit at Officer, so the UP had to run the extras, including an MP scale test car, to a siding closer to Fort Collins before returning to Milliken for public display.
Bob > Fort Collins local and 8 cars for the Great Western that would not fit at Officer Junction/Kelim.

Curiously, it appears that the UP is bringing back a modern version of a tender "doghouse" to hold additional crew members. This one appears to be installed at an odd angle (I didn't feel like taking it out in Photoshop.)
Bob > Green signal to the Fort Collins local to cross US34.
Bob > After dropping interchange cars for the Great Western, light Fort Collins local power races across US34 towards a late display date in Milliken.
Bob > Beauty and the beast. Power for the Fort Collins local returns light through Kelim after dropping unfinished work in various sidings. The 1989 has a show date at Milliken Madness days, on a scoraching hot July day. If not for the fancy paint job, would 1989 last longer on the roster than SD40-2 3246?
Bob > UP 1989 races light across the Big Thompson River on the north side of Milliken, CO. She is late for for public display.
